UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL INDIANA AWARDS GRANT TO DRESS FOR SUCCESS INDIANAPOLIS
Grant funds break down access barriers to employment services for Indy women
Indianapolis, IN – The Social Innovation Fund, a new fund of United Way of Central Indiana, announced a grant of $55,000 to Dress for Success Indianapolis to combat transportation barriers for local women.
Dress for Success Indianapolis is an organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence through programming, tools, and support. The funding provided by The Social Innovation Fund will help Dress for Success Indianapolis reach and empower more women over the next year.
Many women face barriers to economic independence including unreliable transportation and which can make finding a job nearly impossible. These funds will allow Dress for Success Indianapolis to alleviate transportation barriers by providing gas cards, bus passes, and working with its community partners to provide its suiting and employment services at satellite sites around Central Indiana.
“These funds will allow Dress for Success Indianapolis to offer programming in surrounding counties, but also allow us to provide transportation to get women to our office. We will also be able to help women with transportation costs their first few days on the job, until they get their first check and takeover costs,” said Julie Petr, Executive Director, Dress for Success Indianapolis. “It really just opens the door for many women to get necessary support and services to obtain and retain stable employment.”
